Review of grammatical principles together with readings from Greek prose and poetry. Selections from a wide range of authors will be included in order to demonstrate the diversity and appeal of Greek literature. Emphasis is placed on developing reading ability. Prereq: CLA 152 or equivalent.

CLA 555/655 - ANCIENT GREEK PROSE: HISTORIANS - CALDESI VALERI

This course will entail reading in the original Greek selections from the works composed by the two chief 5th-century BCE historians, Herodotus and Thucydides Thucydides. In doing so, students will explore the origins, development, nature and methods of historical writing, the interconnections between the two historians as well as questions of style, language and narrative.
