University Scholars Program

Are you a Junior Linguistics Major at the University of Kentucky interested in earning a graduate degree in Linguistics?

The UK Master of Arts in Linguistics (MAL) has a program that can get you there in just one year beyond your four-year undergraduate degree!

The MAL University Scholars Program (USP) offers students the opportunity and challenge of integrating their undergraduate and graduate courses of study into a single, continuous program leading to both a bachelor's and master's degree in Linguistics.

An applicant to the USP will be a Linguistics Major in the spring of her/his Junior year. Once accepted into the program, in the first year of the USP the student may take up to 12 hours of graduate coursework that can be counted toward both the BA/BS and MA requirements. They will also complete any outstanding BA/BS requirements. In the second year of the program, the student will complete the remaining 18 hours for the MAL degree (Master's in Linguistics). Participation in the USP does not change any undergraduate degree requirements, or any graduate degree requirements, but allows for the completion of the BA/BS and MA in just five years total.
