Mala putare levia

My name is Chikondi Medson from Malawi.

I studied (2008 - 14) in Malawi at Kamuzu Academy, the school founded by Malawi's first president, Kamuzu Banda, where it is incumbent upon each student to study, in addition to the usual subjects, both Classical Greek and Latin, at least through the first four years.

I was then priviled to go and experience an immersion in Classical culture in Rome at the Accademia Vivarium Novum where the medium of communication is exclusivley either Latin or Classical Greek. I also attended undergraduate courses at the Univarsità Pontificia Salesiana where I graduated in June 2016 after successfully defending a thesis on Seneca's Stoic Philosophy in Latin.

I am very glad to be pursuing my graduate education at the University of Kentucky. It is on account of the great work of members of MCLLC that I am here. All faculty and fellow students are very amiable and supportive.

The heading is taken from Sneca's thesis OnTranquillity and it means to consider bad things slight. Such is human life that now and then we will be afflicted by things we consider shortcomings in ourselves, in those around us, in nature itself. The solution however, from the master motivator, Seneca, is to always remember that our outlook depends on our attitude. The world is how we choose to perceive it.
