Why study ASL?
American Sign Language is a complete visual language with its own grammar and structure, used to communicate ideas and everyday experiences. ASL developed from influences including French Sign Language, Indigenous sign language and Martha's Vineyard Sign Language. By studying ASL, students gain access to Deaf culture, history and community.
