Education Abroad in France and Italy
Caen
One student per semester is selected to receive a scholarship covering tuition, housing, and fees for study at the Université de Caen in Normandy, France. Students there enroll in courses through CEFE and the university. Students live in the university dormitories with French and other international students. Qualified students will have at least 6 semesters of French by the start of the program. The application for this scholarship is competitive and includes an interview in French with the Sister Cities Committee. An early deadline applies (January 15 for Fall and Spring semesters).
Calvados
The Calvados internship program offers students the opportunity to intern in Calvados during the summer. Students should have at least 4 semesters of French.
Deauville
The Deauville Teaching Assistantship provides students who are highly competent in French with the opportunity to live in Deauville and teach English as a second language to elementary school students. Deauville is a small resort city in Normandy and the ideal location for a full immersion experience. This program is open to students who have recently graduated. Qualified students will be strong in French (5-6 semesters preferred) and must commit to a full year in Deauville. An early deadline applies (December 15).
Paris (KIIS: Kentucky Institute for International Study)
The KIIS Paris II summer program is a serious academic program which offers Paris as its classroom. Designed to take full advantage of the city’s abundant cultural resources, the Paris II program gives students a selection of advanced French-language courses. From the Louvre to the Musee d'Orsay, Notre Dame to Sacre Coeur, and Montmartre to Montparnasse, students not only visit Paris but have the time to make it their own. During five weeks in Paris, students become intimately familiar with this modern, cosmopolitan city. Students use their language skills in class and while exploring the many sides of the city. In short, the language experience does not end after exiting the classroom— it only begins as students set out to explore Paris’s architecture, parks, neighborhoods, restaurants, and cafés. The program is designed to offer students a balance between structured time in class, program activities, and excursions, and unstructured time for study, completion of group projects, and pursuit of individual interests (including travel). Class activities may include, but are not limited to: lectures in museums, neighborhood walking tours, theater visits, movie outings, music festivals, a day-trip outside of Paris, etc. These and other activities offer students ample opportunity to strengthen their knowledge of French language and culture. An unlimited Navigo metro/bus pass enables students to travel with ease throughout Paris. On select weekends, students can travel independently to locations in France and beyond.??Please note: Students wishing to participate in the Paris II program must have at least 12 hours of college-level French or the equivalent at time of departure.
