FLIE/French Internship and Study Abroad Opportunities
Calvados
The Calvados internship program offers students the opportunity to intern in Calvados during the summer in a variety of professional settings.
One student per semester is selected to receive a scholarship covering tuition, housing, and fees for study at the Université de Caen in Normandy, France. Qualified students will have at least 6 semesters of French by the start of the program. The application for this scholarship is competitive and includes an interview in French with the Sister Cities Committee. An early deadline applies (January 15 for Fall and Spring semesters).
The Deauville Teaching Assistantship provides students who are highly competent in French with the opportunity to live in Deauville and teach English as a second language to elementary school students. This program is also open to students who have recently graduated. Qualified students will be strong in French (5-6 semesters preferred) and must commit to a full year in Deauville. An early deadline applies (December 15).
The KIIS Paris summer program is an academic program designed to take full advantage of the city’s abundant cultural resources. Students wishing to participate in the Paris program must have at least 12 hours of college-level French or the equivalent at time of departure.

- Students of German can study in Heidelberg, Bielefeld or Ludwigsburg, Germany and Graz or Salzburg, Austria.
FLIE/Japanese Study Abroad Opportunities, Internships, and Scholarships
The FLIE-Japanese program facilitates students’ learning by providing study abroad opportunities, internship sites, and scholarships.
- The Japan studies program has established an exchange agreement with a number of universities in Japan including but not limited to Akita International University, Kansai Gaidai University, and Nagoya University. Students can also join the Department of Geography’s 6 week Summer Program in Japan, which is designed for a small group of students to travel throughout Japan and gain valuable insights into its environment, culture and landscapes. - The current internship sites include: Lafayette High School, Japanese Saturday School (to be confirmed), and KI (USA) Corporation. Interns are chosen on the merit basis. Application information will be delivered to all FLIE-Japanese majors via email when the application deadline approaches.

FLIE/Russian Study Abroad Opportunities, Internships, and Scholarships
Russian Department Education Abroad Scholarship: The Russian Studies Education Abroad scholarship is open to any UK student who plans to study Russian on an officially UK-sanctioned program in Russia or a Russian-speaking country for a summer, semester, or academic year. The scholarship, established by Professor (emeritus) Jerry Janecek, enables students to receive a modest stipend to help defray program costs or support an airline ticket. Students on any level are welcome to apply. A minimum of $500 is awarded to a student who receives the scholarship.
