LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 14, 2013) — The University of Kentucky is celebrating its commitment to international education with various events Nov.18-22, joining institutions across the country to celebrate the benefits of international education and worldwide exchange.
International Education Week (IEW) is a joint initiative between the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment.
International education is growing steadily on campus. The number of international undergraduates has increased by 6 percent over last fall's enrollment. English as a second language (ESL) undergraduate students have increased by 42 percent. Additionally, 886 UK students have enrolled in Education Abroad programs during the 2012-13 academic year, a slight increase over the previous academic year.
The UK International Center is also serving the campus community by facilitating interaction with a global, scholarly community, according to Susan Carvalho, associate provost for international programs.
“We not only create diverse opportunities for global experiences, but also promote the involvement of UK faculty and students in the international community of scholars to investigate and solve global problems.”

LEXINGTON, KY (Nov. 14, 2013) –La Universidad de Kentucky estará celebrando este noviembre 18-22 su compromiso con la educación internacional. Acompáñanos en varios eventos que contarán con la presencia de diferentes instituciones que valoran los beneficios la educación internacional y el intercambio mundial.
La semana de educación internacional, conocida como IEW por sus siglas en Inglés es una iniciativa del Departamento de Educación y el Departamento de Estado de los Estados Unidos que busca promover programas que abrirán puertas mundiales para los Americanos.
La educación internacional ha estado creciendo en los últimos años en el campus de UK. El número de estudiantes internacionales incrementó por un 6% desde el otoño del año pasado. Estudiantes del programa de ESL ha incrementado un maravilloso 42%. Además, sólo en el año académico 2012-2013, 886 estudiantes de UK se han inscrito y han participado en programas de intercambio.
De acuerdo a la rectora de programas internacionales Susan Carvahlo, el UK International Center ha contribuido a este movimiento al facilitar interacciones con comunidades globales y escolares.
“Buscamos crear oportunidades de experiencias globales así como también promover la participación de la facultad y los estudiantes en investigaciones internacionales que podrían solucionar problemas globales.”
