Hello! My name is Maria Carey, and I grew up in Richmond, Kentucky. I am a senior pursuing a dual degree in Neuroscience and Modern & Classical Languages, Literatures, & Cultures for Russian studies on the Pre-Medicine track. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, watching movies, dancing, and traveling whenever I can.
I work at Woman2Woman Obstetrics & Gynecology, and I’m also a research assistant in Dr. Barry-Hundeyin’s lab, where we’re exploring potential immunotherapies for gastrointestinal malignancies. I am also deeply involved on campus and within the Lexington community. In addition to being an Arts and Sciences ambassador, I am a Gaines Center for the Humanities fellow, president of the Russian club, and a proud member of the UK dance ensemble, movement mentors, and neuroCATS. I am also a mentor in the Amachi Lexington Leadership Foundation, which has been a very rewarding experience!
I chose to go to the University of Kentucky because of the many resources and opportunities available, which have allowed me to grow both academically and personally. I was also drawn to the balance of a large university atmosphere with a strong sense of community, where I could make a meaningful impact and truly feel at home.
Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! Go cats!
