French Studies Forum on the Paris Attacks

The University of Kentucky recently hosted a French Studies Forum on the Paris Attacks, organized by French and Francophone Studies within the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, Literatures, and Cultures.

The participants in the forum address the cultural and political context of, as well as the emerging and continuing fallout surrounding, the recent deadly attacks on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and a Paris kosher market (January 7-9, 2015).

Our second Language Talk: KWLA podcast features host Laura Roché Youngworth discussing the Kentucky World Language Program Review with Jacque Van Houten, Jefferson County Public Schools World Language Consultant, and Alfonso de Torres Nunez, World Language Consultant for the KY Department of Education. French Studies Forum on Paris Attacks

We invite you to a forum discussion organized by French and Francophone Studies at UK on the Paris attacks of January 7-9, 2015. 

UK faculty from the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, the Department of History, and the Department of Geography will discuss the recent deadly attacks on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and a Paris kosher market, as well as provide some context for the social and political debates that continue to emerge in the wake of the attacks.

MCLLC Alumni Panel: Finding the Right Professional Path

In November, we were given the opportunity to record an alumni panel featuring several accomplished graduates from the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. The panel was planned and moderated by Linda Kraus Worley who wanted to give students the opportunity to speak with alumni who have successfully combined their M.A. degrees in MCLLC with another professional degree.

Translating for the Stage with Alan McKendrick

The University of Kentucky has been playing host to Alan McKendrick, a Scottish playwright, stage director, and translator, as he works with students during a compressed, three-week course. Within the course, McKendrick and the students are working to translate and adapt a popular German play into American English with a Kentuckian twist. In this podcast, we speak to McKendrick about his previous work, the difficulties of adapting and translating plays, and the dynamics of the compressed course.
